Aluva, formerly known as Alwaye is a suburb located about 26 kilometers north of Kochi in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. It is strategically located on the River Periyar and is the industrial epicenter of the city. The town is divided into two halves by the river, making the commercial town towards the southern side of river and residential areas towards the northern side. In 1990, Aluva was included into the Greater Kochi area, making it a part of Kochi City and the satellite town of Ernakulam. Some of the important residential areas in Aluva include Thottakkattukara, Desam, Periyar Nagar, Kadungalloor, Uliyannoor, Choornikkara, Asokapuram and Kunnathery Thikavu.

Aluva is home to several religious spots including Sivarathri Manappuram Temple, St. Dominic Church, Aluva Masjid, Sree Krishna Temple, Pottachira Sree Krishna Temple, Uliyannoor Sree Mahadeva Temple and Kunjunnikara Juma Masjid.

Connectivity

Aluva is well-connected to other major localities in Kerala via the NH-47 which runs along the area. Some of the prominent roads in the vicinity are Edapally-Panvel Highway, the ICT Road, the Aluva-Panvel Road and the Main Central Road. Aluva is one of the most important railway stations in Greater Cochin situated in the Ernakulam district and is also the second busiest station. It is situated in the Shoranur-Cochin Harbour section of the Trivandrum railway division. The region is served by KSRTC buses and is well-connected to Mysore, Mangalore, Bangalore, Trichy, Coimbatore, Salem, Palani and Kodaikanal.

The Cochin International Airport is 12.8 kilometers from Aluva via the Salem Kochi Kanyakumari Highway and the Airport Road. Aluva is a major stop for National Waterway 3 which connects it to Thiruvananthapuram and Kottapuram (Thrissur).
