Hubli and Dharwad are the twin cities collectively known as "Hubli-Dharwad". After Bengaluru, it is the second largest city in Karnataka. It is the business hub of North Karnataka, having many commercial centres. Hubli is located at a distance of 85 kilometres from south of Maharashtra-Karnataka border. Various crops such as chilly, cotton and peanuts grow in the nearby areas. In North Karnataka, Hubli is the main railway junction. It also has a large number of government offices. Hubli has the largest cotton market in India. Hubli houses the diesel locomotive shed and is the biggest holder of EMD locomotive in India and was set up in 1880.

The city has a sound infrastructure offering great connectivity to the residents of the city. There is Hubli Airport and various flights are operated by Air Pegasus. Even Air India is about to launch a flight to Mumbai. Even there is a proper rail network that connects the city to other important parts. The city lies on the “Golden Quadrilateral". National Highway 63 and National Highway 218 connects the city to other important cities in the region.
