Whitefield is a major suburb of Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka. In the 1800s, it was a settlement for the Eurasians and Anglo Indians. Presently it has been considered as a part of Greater Bangalore. The locality is popular for Sathya Sai Baba's ashram named Brindavan. It is also a hub for several IT MNCs. Whitefield has been acknowledged officially as a part of Bangalore city which is part of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike.

Whitefield, from a small village, has transformed into a major IT industry hub. IBM Global Service, Molex India Pvt Ltd, Manhattan Associates India and Mphasis are some of the major IT companies in this region.
Infrastructure
Whitefield is connected to Bangalore city through two major four-lane roads. Whitefield road via Mahadevapura and Varthur Road (HAL Old Airport Road) via Marathahalli. The roads intersect with Karnataka State Highway 35 (SH 35) which runs north-south (Siddlaghatta in the north to Anekal in the south). The Whitefield Railway Station, lying on Bangalore-Chennai route, is situated about 3 kilometres north of the Whitefield Bus Stop. The region is replete with shopping malls, a renowned super specialty hospital and educational institutions. There is an extensive bus connectivity as well as the well-known Namma Metro Project services.
Real Estate
Whitefield is witnessing large scale residential construction since couple of decades. There has also been a huge demand for office and commercial spaces in Whitefield.
